Ella?

He blew that woman off (I think her name was Ella but that might have been the other woman's name, I'm not sure)who said his name and tried to take his hand really fast and kind of cruelly. Was she someone to him from the past? I don't know if this was something lost in translation or something the film didn't address any further.

His wife.

Is there any evidence in the film supporting that claim?

That's really what I'm wondering. Not every line was translated in the subtitles so unless someone understands all the background voices I'm kind of going with it was a way for the director to show another part of the camp. They bribed the guard to let him in, maybe he used to go see Ella for "relief" but is only focused on the boy now so he just shucked her off and went back to his quest.

No, she's not his wife or the mother of the boy. The director said he never imagined her as Saul's wife. The movie does reference several historical incidents, such as the secret taking of the "Sonderkommando photographs" of the killing pits in Auschwitz (you can see the original photos online) and also the 1944 Sonderkommando rebellion at Auschwitz. There is a real woman named Ala Gertner who was hanged in Auschwitz in 1944 for smuggling gunpowder to the Sonderkommandos, and even though the director doesn't mention her in his commentary when he talks about the scene, I find it hard to believe Ella wasn't based on her.

We assume Ella is the mother of the boy. Saul says that he had a kid with another woman, but Abraham keeps saying that he never had a son, so we assume that the boy is an illegitimate child, even his closest friend didn't know about it. And then, there's this scene where Saul refutes knowing Ella, but later we learn that they know each other. (Kinda like trying to evade this past.) She tries to touch him and say his name, but he goes away.

Like ibbi said in the other post: "When Saul is trying to convince Abraham of the existence of his son he says that the kid is not his wifes. It's certainly implied that they have history together [Saul and Ella], before going to see her he even tries to deny knowing her."

Admit it Tuco, you were just musing about a script for a spin-off, right? There is nothing in this movie that suggests Saul and Ella are previously linked in any way.
