SPOILER: Ella?

What was up with the hand thing? I've read that the Sonderkommando weren't allowed to interact with the female prisoners, so Ella might have just needed the physical contact on a human level.

But the way the camera held on her face, and the way her face seemed to betray that she was holding back an emotional response...

In a Hollywood film, this would 100% indicate that she and Saul had a history. As it is, it's ambiguous. Are we given any other clues?

When he's trying to convince Abraham of the existence of his son he says that the kid is not his wifes. It's certainly implied that they have history together, before going to see her he even tries to deny knowing her. It doesn't seem to be stretching things too much to say the movie is implying that maybe he's not making it all up after all, and the two of them had a kid together??

Maybe, but I don't think so.

Same conclusion that I came up with!

I think he would have been a lot more emotional if the woman would have been the mother of the dead boy. He was after all looking to bury this boy.

The woman was someone helping those who wanted to revolt by supplying the gunpowder. I interpreted her look and touching of Saul as one of urgency and desperation. She knew they could all be killed at any time.
