What was up with the hand thing? I've read that the Sonderkommando weren't allowed to interact with the female prisoners, so Ella might have just needed the physical contact on a human level.

In a Hollywood film, this would 100% indicate that she and Saul had a history. As it is, it's ambiguous. Are we given any other clues?

It's certainly implied that they have history together, before going to see her he even tries to deny knowing her. It doesn't seem to be stretching things too much to say the movie is implying that maybe he's not making it all up after all, and the two of them had a kid together??
