Regarding this and THE PASSION, I wonder..

Will the same people criticize this movie for exploiting the pain and suffering of people for glorification? Or that this is "torture porn"? Or that the director hates Jews because of the subject matter (as opposed to specific Hollywood jewish producers)?

I haven't seen the film, but I've heard the buzz and would be interested to at least give it a chance.. but the troll/mischevious side of me has to wonder if we will hear praise about how brutally honest the movie is about the holocaust (again), or will the critics turn on the movie regardless of it's philosophical points as a glorification of violence?

reply

It doesn't glorify violence at all.

"Ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

reply

It does not glorify violence. Most of the horror and violence are in the background and usually out of focus. It is an excellent and moving film.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.

Exactly, it is interesting that with even with the usage of close ups, there were really very few graphic visual images. They are there, but they are in the background.

I think it was a respectable decision, the sound effects coming from inside those chambers, and hearing that boy gasp for breath was horrific without being visually gratuitous.

reply

Is anyone actually making the argument that this film glorifies violence?

I think it would be really bizarre for anyone to interpret this film that way. I would question the motives of anyone that does, quite frankly.

reply

It's absurd to ask these questions without actually watching the movie first.
