Why did the Brits wear black bandanas during the battle?

Why did the British wear black bandanas during the battle? I have never seen that in any other movie or on any Revolutionary War paintings.

Small population...
It hides who they are.
Remember they were on a raid and it was not open warfare at that point.
No different then our Storm-Trooper-Robo-Cops we have TODAY! ;-)

Also I would guess it helped them breath in all that gun smoke.

That's what I thought, too.

Because the producers who had obviously run out of money to pay for an actual historical/technical advisor must have thought to themselves "that would look cool", so they paid for a bunch of black handkerchiefs instead.

I was lead to believe that it was part of some of the troops uniforms. I think it was cavalry, but was probably just added to make the uniforms seem nicer by the production team for the series.

My joked with a friend that it was because they were supposed to be ninja redcoats. :)
