''The character who makes the biggest impression, oddly, is a bot named L3-37, voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. L3-37 has a strong feminist agenda''

oohh man thats so cool! Robots with feminist agendas! Kathleen Kennedy is a genius!

reply

It's kind of disturbing when you remember hookerbots in Futurama... and what was parody some years ago has become something real.

Matt Groenig must have a hell of crystal ball.

reply

Please tell me you're joking?

reply

Sadly not. I have seen/read several reviews that mention the robot as being a feminist. From either people who like the movie or people who didn't like it. So it must be real.

reply

Christ. Not looking forward to lectures from a literal fembot.

reply

Since Lando Calrissian is not straight anymore, are you looking forward to a lecture from a pansexual?

reply

I don't know anything about the plot your refering to. Is lando in a sexual relationship with the robot? What are we talking about here?

reply

The writer of the movie said Lando is a sexually fluid pansexual.

Wikipedia:

In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Pan (/pæn/; Ancient Greek: Πάν, Pan) is the god of the wild, shepherds and flocks, nature of mountain wilds, rustic music and impromptus, and companion of the nymphs. He has the hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat, in the same manner as a faun or satyr.

Jimmy I know what a pansexual is. Its the plot I'm talking about. Were is it sated that lando ins pansexual? I've seen a blog entry describing the robot as feminist. I was really all for this movie but if these plot points are true perhaps I'll go see dead pool instead. :/

edit:
Oh sorry I see the post now about the writer. :( Sorry to see a movie with such potential drop so low.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/17/17366002/lando-calrissian-solo-a-star-wars-story Sounds like this alleged pansexuality is just fan fare to the LGBT community happening with no real on screen evidence. It reminds me of the Sulu is gay in JJ Abrams star trek. Like you have to stretch your imagination to see it in the film.

reply

I just said the thing about Lando to show you how stupid some things in this movie are. Robots being feminists, Lando being made a pansexual. Its just crazy how they insert this crap into this movie. Can't they just expand the Star Wars lore instead? Like how hard is that shit? I've seen fanfiction and Legends stories that are 1000 times more engaging...

I would agree and I just wonder what motiviates the writers to claim they are advancing identity politics in their movies while its so obvious the studios are unwillng to make their films less marketable by showing this on screen. its Like when JK rowling claimed dumbledore was gay after all the harry potter books and movies were out. Its like year right you may be the original writer and auther but we don't find your alleged gender identity claims being evident in any of the films or books. Either shut up or grow a pair. The producers of course rightfully won't allow their films to loose market value though so they might as well start compelling their writers to sign NDAs to keep them from claiming nonsense like this.

reply

Yeah indeed. They claim to be super progressive but they don't put their money where their mouth is. Either go with it fully or shut the fuck up. In any case, I do think Star Wars should have gay characters (when it makes sense, just like a hetero character). Just make up new characters. Don't gayify old characters. That just feels very forced and not genuine.

I'm actually of the mind set that sexuality is overly represented in films. Romantic sideplots tend to overshadow the danger the group is facing. I always liked how horror films like Alien and the Thing (Both things) avoided romantic subplots and it enhanced the horror of the film. I actually wish films would tone it back a little. This push for identity inclusivive ness is taking time away from the plot that needs all the development time it can get in films that are usually sub 2 hours.

reply

True. But its great when it works though. Just look at The Lord of the Rings. It worked fine there. In the case of Deadpool it also worked quite well. Romance is a natural thing. Humans are attracted to other humans. The thing directors and writers have to do is make it relevant to the story or just not include it at all.

They also have to make it believable and natural.

Finally a droid to counterbalance that shameless misogynist R2D2!
