shareWhen Michael Cimino was making Heaven's Gate in 1979-80, executives at United Artists were allowed to see the rushes from time to time On the basis of those scenes, they saw a gorgeous film with superb production design that in their minds fully justified the exorbitant costs of the film. Unfortunately, they saw "moments", not how the film was eventually cut together. When UA finally saw Cimino's initial 5 hour cut, they were horrified. MORAL OF THE STORY: you can't make an evaluation on how good or bad a film might be on the basis of a scene or two carefully released to suggest the film is exciting. Is this story even true?

What did I write that is so confusing...I still think it's gonna suck...just thought folks would be interested in the fact that Lucasfilm finally has the balls to show some of it to the public...the fact that some Germans liked it was of note...

Star Wars nerds lose their shit over anything Star Wars-related. They're certainly not going to show this footage to a room full of cinephiles who actually give a damn about story/character/cinematography/overall technique. Half the audience was probably grown-ass men dressed like Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Basically, the shots looked good... which is no surprise since it has budget enough to look good. Damn, The Last Jedi was a shitty movie in spite of amazing shots like this one

Right now, the most likely outcome it's that Solo will be a shitty movie with beautiful shots, like Rogue One or Ep.VIII.
