shareWell the ship is supposed to be modified after Lando gains ownership..perhaps it will look like the classic ship by the end of the movie.
shareThe flat radar dish is interesting, but it's probably mounted on something that allows it to pop up and lay down. I like how the ship seems to be streamlined for speed in atmospheric flight, which would also help when speeding through interstellar clouds, nebulas, etc.
shareI thought it was somewhat cool...very reminiscent of the corrillian class freighters we saw in the prequels...until I noticed it was the "kessel run" model...then I rolled my eyes...sorry, but I don't really want a history of Han from the perspective of everything we currently know from canon to be crammed into a two hour flick. Would have rather had a stand alone story that focused on a time period before ANH but after the origin tale...we know enough about the main characters...throw them into an adventure and let the veiweres sort out the importance and relevance of the plot by telling a compelling story and not depending on fan service to do all the heavy lifting...I gotta bad feeling about this!(broke out the Han Solo trash compactor version for this postπ―)
shareWell, Rogue One was built around explaining why the Death Star had a tunnel going directly to the core, perfect for torpedoes.
Now "Solo" will be built around explaining why the Kessel Run is measured in distance, instead of time.
I think if we pinpoint other major "logic debates" in the Star Wars movies, we can spot other spinoff movies that will be created to explain them.
Well, Rogue One was built around explaining why the Death Star had a tunnel going directly to the core, perfect for torpedoes.
The retcon that already existed was pretty creative, though. The Kessel Run was eventually made into a dangerous route past black holes and such, thus "keeping your distance" is safest, and taking shortcuts by getting closer to the black holes is risky.
Yes it was a bork in the script, and it wasn't even close to the worst.
I think an entire movie should be based around the Star Destroyer gunners, and their commander, who decided not to shoot down the escape pod from Leia's ship because it had no "life signs," basically forgetting that droids exist in their reality... Existing on damn near every street corner too.
I just chalk it up to the gunners being noobs. I would have at least tractor beamed the pod for inspection.
Also I don't get why they just can't transmit the plans to the Death Star. Why do they need to transport it via pony express. What do they not have hyperspace communication. We saw in Empire strikes back a star destroyer a good hyperspace distance away from the planet hoth being able to decode information from the probe droid.
Instead we see the plans being transfered via what looks like a representation of a floppy disk that lei used to put the plans on R2D2. It is 1977 and all.

Even without transmitting, they could have made multiple copies and sent them all over the place.
share Yea they could have published them on USENET which came out 2 years after the film. Good old TCP/IP networking would have saved the actors a lot of time and space travel. Or better yet just FTPed the plans to a rebel server. FTP was around since the early 70s. Still no IRC or web yet though. :(
I was hoping han would have one the bet and gotten the melinium falcon before the movies end.

The Falcon would look pretty badass with a spoiler, actually... Although it wouldn't help the ship fly at all.
