Not bad but a couple idiotic things and missed opportunities (spoilers)

So the lead kid gets bullied by a jock who beats him up and threatens him to not show up on the next practice which leads to Mickey Rourke teaching him how to fight.

But then for some reason the jock takes a liking to the kid and not only does he not fight him but he also allows him to sexually harass his semi-girlfriend making claims that she'd like to be gangraped by him and his jock friends.

There should have been some sort of payback scene or something in the end where the lead kid could have showed off his learnt fighting skills or just at least showed him just what douchebag he is, otherwise what's the point?

And the ending should have been emotional but the lead smiling all the way through the funeral made it an impossibility, we learn right before it that Ashby gave all his belongings to him... So that kinda made it look like 'sure my best friend and semi-father figure is dead, but I got his car and possessions so whatevz'.

The absent father subplot was also a fail, the father lets him down and stands him up by not flying to visit him ever and he's naturally bummed out, the father posts him some energydrinks in the mail and his faith in his father is restored.

Overall it was decent though but it could have been better, Mickey Rourke did very good in the lead.

You should really watch this film again, and pay attention this time.

You totally missed what actually happened.
