HUGE flaw in story that destroys the film

McCall is reading the same list of books that his wife was reading before she died.

As far as we know he started this list in circa 2014 (first movie) maybe even earlier... However in this movie 2018 he is still working on the list he's on the last few books. One of the books he's reading is "Between the World and Me" by: Ta'nehisi Coates.

This book was published 2015...... How could it have been on a list of books to read that his wife was reading when she died pre-2014???

Film destroyed...

Was it made clear, he only read the books from that list? Denzel seems to be quite intelligent and does not look like he spent his days with video games or Netflix nights. So quite much time to read. So maybe he does not just read books from her list, but also books of interest.
