Should Tarkin have been communicating by hologram?

I think most people can admit that the CGI for Tarkin just wasn't really there, especially when he was in frame with real humans. So perhaps it would have been better if Tarkin had been on a different ship or base, and was communicating by hologram?
The translucence, blue tint, and liney distortion Star Wars holograms have could easily hide the inadequacies of the CGI, and it would't really affect the story.

Even if they did have him communicate via hologram it wouldn't have fixed Leia.

I guess there'd have been more Days and budget available for the Leia CGI.

You've missed the OPs entire point - They could have made HER a hologram too...

I have said this elsewhere with the options of not having him, recasting, full CGI or what they did. I would go with what they did. Is it perfect? no. But it actually is very well done, you can tell but most people that could came from knowing the actor was dead and thus they knew some kind of CGI trickery was afoot and were looking for the flaws. My wife could not tell until I told her. Overall the effect was solid and I would take it over the other options.

Leia on the other end, that was a problem. I don't think they took near the time trying to get that right.

You'd be surprised how many people I had to tell that the original Tarkin actor Peter Cushing passed away years ago, they did a good job there. I will agree that Leia's model needed work, something was way off, the face proportions seemed strange, tough to explain.

They are either idiots or they watched the movie on a small TV from across a big room (or on a phone). The facial muscle movements, especially the mouth movements when he was speaking, didn't even look remotely real/human. The only way that CGI model could even come close to passing for real is in a still-frame image.

And yes, cartoon Leia was even worse.
