This or Father Brown?

I think Grantchester is the superior show out of these two choices, but I like the characters in Father Brown.

It is rather surprising. Who'd have thought there was room for more than one TV show about a catholic priest who doubles as a Homicide Investigator in a small country village in England in the 1950s ?

The vicar in Grantchester is Anglican, not Roman Catholic.

Ok, thanks for that. I must admit that not having actually watched Granchester before, I wasn't 100% sure whether he was Catholic or not and made a wrong assumption. At least that gives the shows a slight point of difference. lol.

In that aspect Grantchester makes much more sense. English villages of the time would have been majority Anglican.

Father Brown's depiction of a 1950s village in the Cotswalds where just about everyone is Catholic isn't realistic for England, where Catholicism was suppressed for a long time after the Reformation and never really regained prominence. It's also a departure from the original books that had Brown working more solo in bigger cities.
