is this show still going?

I was looking on Wikipedia and the ratings have slid a lot since it first started. But the last two seasons ... well, at least season 4 where Morgan shows up again have boosted my interest in the show and I really like it. ( dumb as it may be ). Does anyone know if it is still in production?

I haven't heard anything about cancellation.

reply

Yup. Renewed for a 6th season. They're going to flog this dead horse for as long as they can.

I like this show, but last season was really stupid. The zombies have more brains than the characters! ;-)

reply

Just last season? :)

I kind of enjoyed the season before last season, where Morgan showed up and the whole show changed around. I got so sick of that drug-addict son story. I do miss Kim Dickens, I think she's great in anything she does. I like the Althea story too. But these horse riding thugs are boring and the story is stupid. I doubt he will be, but I hope Morgan is not dead.

I was mainly poking fun at this part: "The zombies have more brains than the characters!"

This show and its parent seem to be overly reliant on the incompetence of the characters to create suspenseful situations. And it's not a recent development.

I thought season 3 was the best season.Season 4 was a let down to me,as it left so many loose ends from S03 unresolved, plus killing off Nick & Madison. While I did like some of the new characters,I struggled to finish the season,

I don't think I've even made it half way through S05,& I can barely remember any of the episodes I did watch.

reply

Yeah, I thought S3 was really solid too. And yeah, S4 was so bad I don't think I've even started S5.

I finally caught up on the rest of Season 5 that I never finished last year. I'm actually surprised how much I liked it. Not great by any means, but much better than Season 4,which was easily the worst season (imo) with nothing interesting happening and the same drearily tinted, muddy environments to look at every episode.

I used to think Morgan was ridiculous in his mission to walk down a new path as "the one who helps everyone" (and yes, there's still some ridiculous moments in Season 5), but when you see their community start to come together, you kind of see what they were going for. Also, seems like the writing feels more natural this time around, with bits of levity thrown in to humanize them more. Also surprised how poignant the developing Morgan-Grace relationship was.

There will be a Season 6 and it's scheduled to air around August 2020. Although with the coronavirus affecting productions everywhere, not sure if that date will hold.

I'll bet that is going to be severely delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak. Sad.
Season 4 changed every damn thing about that series ... how do you say nothing changed.
The mother and the addict son got killed. I liked the Kim Dickens character, not so much
the kid.

reply

Okay you're right about those two major changes. But to get to those plot points (where Kim Dickens and the son character died), and afterwards, felt like a very slow slog. On one hand it's important to show characters going through some form of PTSD, but it also doesn't make for great television when that's all we see episode after episode. It felt like in Season 4 every character was mopey and drifting aimlessly. In real life that may be realistic (under post-apocalyptic circumstances), but it's not compelling enough for a 16 episode season imo.

I liked the development of the characters and their relationships, and the transformation of Morgan into a not quite so weird person, and then also Grace ... although, not sure that she was in S4 or S5. I also really enjoyed the saga of John Dorie and ... whatever her name was ... June. I was not impressed with the bad guys, and then also how easily they were defeated, though that was acceptable.
