Nothing like the book- not even the same story!!!!

This is NOTHING like the book. That the child's disappearance happens on Halloween is the only connection and it's his daughter, there is no son in the story.
They just took the title. Not since (Stephen King's) The Lawnmower Man have I seen a book so utterly butchered by Hollywood. What's worse is that book is actually really scary, I had to sleep with night light on the first night after I read it, and now we will never see an actual adaptation of Pay The Ghost. Why buy the rights to the original if all you want to do is make the same style of "vengeful ghost" movie Hollywood has been making for two decades now??

I have not read the book. Besides the substitution of a son instead of a daughter, what else is different? In the book -- Is he a professor? Was a woman and her children killed hundreds of years ago and she's the ghost? Did she take children on Halloween? What was the basic premise of the book?

@gmoxie, maybe you should read the book since you have so many questions. I agree with the OP on this. It's not the first time that the adaptation of a great book turns into crap in Hollywood's hands.

I agree- definitely read the story! It's a very good novella, and to answer all these questions here would completely ruin it.
