I agree with you jack. I'm assuming it was because there was no racial tension involved in the story. And yes I'm going there given the stupid free speech crap that is going on campuses.

The screenplay was too cheesy with a lot of bad acting. The main character was very robotic and unrealistic. It just was not a good movie. If they got a better actor, director and a screenwriter then it would been different but it was not. Ruby and this movie had a different feel but with similar stories.

Pizzo did an okay job directing, though I can see where the critics hit it hard (no pun), but despite that I thought it was overall a touching movie. I think if another directed it it would've been even better (this was Pizzo's directing debut).

It isn't nearly as bad as the critics make it to be (as compared to some pretentious movies like Clouds of Sils Maria which they fawned over). This is why I barely listen to the critics - I make my own decisions on whether a movie is worthy of the praise it receives or not; I have my own critical thoughts about what I see. When it comes to seeing where you stand vs the popular opinion, remember this: When it comes to various mediums of entertainment - in this case movies - it's always you vs the "professional" critics. Don't let them dictate what's good, what's "deep" and what's not.

Thing is, man: there is somebody saying "I cant believe all the hate" about literally every movie ever. Now this movie was alright. Not great, but alright. But I'm just saying: they'll be right sometime
