Review/AMA (Obviously, spoiler warning)
Hello,
already saw U:BW last saturday but didn't bother posting until now. As a fellow dutchie (see other board message), we got to see an early view.
Personally, it was a long while since I saw Underworld, but a friend of mine wanted to see it, so I went.
The whole feeling of the movie, it gets me the feeling it wouldn't be such a huge hit anymore. I even totally forgot about Underworld: Awakening, until it was mentioned. The real problem I had with this movie was its overall pace and the double agenda of a lot of people. Simply put, we've got elders having their own second agenda of evil, we've got vampires used in the second agenda, who have a second agenda as well and we've got a man who somehow rallied few packs of Lycans and manages to keep them together. Personally, I do not see Marius as a great Lycan leader, he is only pretty immune to everything until he needs to be taken down (in such a way in which you think, *beep* you, all the punches and now we just overkill it?)
The whole movie hints at Eve, who shows up at the end (very vague and quick ending as well), but it sets up the overall premise of the next movie (already announced). Killing Michael was like a guy who died in real life, a quick, useless amount of time devoted to not how, but that he is supposedly killed.
The pace was what really bothered me. The only decent parts were the northern coven, which got into some pretty decent build up for a new power for Selena and was overall also worthwhile for the plot and for some action, the assault.
However, this movie got a quick F4ntastic Four (2015) feeling, as it suddenly noticed it needed to clean up its act and end. Semira gets her new power of Selena's blood, dies at the first real use of it (was pretty funny as well, the irony there, but wasted time). Marius gets killed in an instant after in a previous fight took more than enough in which he actually should've died. Thomas dies in a weak way which gave him no honour, stopping to kill Semira in order to shout Selena and David away, which in turn kills him.
All in all, this will not do well, I think
