Has Sony forgotten how to promote movies?

Seriously, they have had a TERRIBLE year...

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?view2=calendar&yr=2016&studio=sony.htm

Only 2 movies grossed more than 100 million dollars and Ghostbusters was a flop. They can be happy that they were able to make some money with low budget movies like The Shallows Sausage Party and Don't Breathe.

Also, how is it possible that a movie like Billy Lynn made only 1.7 million dollars in the USA?

So, my question is: Has Sony forgotten how to promote movies or do people just don't care anymore what they put out? ^^

Not only Sony forgot how to promote their movies this year, in general all movie studios forgot in 2016 how to promote some of their movies.
Just look at some one like Paramount, they where totally asleep promotion wise on their most expensive production this year: Star Trek Beyond.
This naturally also ended up seriously hurting that movie.

Sony needs to stick with lower budget stuff as their biggest profitmakers as mentioned were also their lower budget films. Passengers is another dud for them it looks like. Meanwhile, Don't Breathe made over 150M on a budget of less than 10M.

the marketing for this film seems to be non-existent while the marketing/promotion for SONY/Screengems other film RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER seems to be in high gear. i was afraid something like this might happen if SONY released both this UW movie and THE FINAL CHAPTER in the same month so close together. i guess SONY decided to put their money into promoting RES EVIL instead of UW.

Both.

Whatever you are, be a good one.
