Only 2.300 theaters...

Is it just me or does Sony WANT this movie to flop? Every Underworld movie has been released in 2.900-3.200 theaters so far. But boxofficemojo.com says that Blood Wars will only be released in 2.300 theaters. It has already been marketed bad in Europe - many friends of mine only knew about it because I have told them. And some of them LOVE this franchise. Sony is clearly doing something wrong. If the movie bombs, then because of Sony and not because of people who aren't interested. What do you guys think?

You must have missed the + after the 2,300. The theater count will go up as we approach the release date, look again next Wednesday or Thursday.

At most, it'll go up by a couple hundred, putting it in the 2,500 range which is extremely low for a franchise release. More akin to a low-to-mid range horror entry. Plus, the first weekend in January is probably the worst date for a non-Oscar bait wide release. It's obvious that Sony knows they have a stinker on their hands and just want to dump it and wash their hands of it.

Ok, they now say that it will be released in 3.065 theaters. That's much better and goes hand in hand with the previous films. :)

It's not even coming to my town. We only have one theater - Cinemark 10 - but still. This isn't a guaranteed flop like Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was (we didn't get that either) but a new entry in a franchise. Sad, really. I was sooo looking forward to seeing this on the weekend.

Maybe wait till tomorrow or go to the imdb thing and push a different day as like the weekend. My town only shows up 5 theaters but you bring it up to Sunday when I go there is at least 2 dozen theaters listed.
