I was also thinking this while watching the movie. It appears that after the detective helped Selene uncover the Lycan conspiracy all of the humans just went: "Oh, they were innocent vampires. Oh, OK. We wont hunt them after all now. We will forget about their existence now and let them live in their mansions and drink blood freely".
