Can anyone tell me what actually happens in this movie?

The only thing i know is that a woman is attacked and raped. It's based on a novel so if anyone has seen the movie or read the book, I'd like to know what happens in the story besides the main character being attacked. Specifically I want to know what happens after that.

A lot happens. See the film without knowing anymore than you know like I did.

Warning: it's very violent and very funny. I was gasping at horror one minute and laughing my head off five minutes later. The film is loaded with characters and subplots. It's really best seen with knowing very little about the film.

Ideally I would but it's not been easy to track down, I'm not going to be able to watch it any time soon. Can't you just spoil it for me? I'll watch it eventually but I'm impatient and curious and I don't mind movies being spoiled before I watch them.

I keyed something out for you but the spoiler button is not working. Sorry, but I don't want to ruin it for anybody.

Seriously a lot happens. It reminded me a bit of Blow Up in that although the rape is the main story, it does take a backseat a lot of times to focus on Huppert's character's bourgeois lifestyle and the people that encompass it. I also imagine it will be quite controversial when it's finally released to the public as the relationship with her attacker shifts.

Detailed summary? Please?

she gets raped. she tries to figure out who it is, while she and everybody else are *beep* each other. she gets attacked again and realizes it's her married neighbor. she dont seem to mind much. THE END. seriously though, terrible movie

Didn't you get the fact that his wife knew what his twisted hobby was?? Even Michele was shocked to figure it out!!! This movie is all about the details; the family relations and scandals in the society. It's a classic Verhoeven film but the directing remind me a lot of Haneke's films...
Anyways, it's either you love it or hate it. Huppert is amazing!!!
