The best film of 2016?

Spoilers!!!

Plus on juge, moins on aime. (BALZAC)

This is a story of a woman (Elle) who is characterized by total lack of empathy. At the beginning of the film, her first reactions after the rape seem unbelievable. But later, as we find out about her past and the fact that she is the daughter of a psychopath killer, we realize that everything is possible.

She seems unable to feel or express any feeling.

The evolution of the story affirms this basic view. The death of her parents, the adventures of her son, the meeting with her ex-husband's girlfriend, etc. All the time, her reactions are totally "logical". Like wondering "is this really happening to me?".
Even the questions that she asked her rapist. (So how was it? Did you enjoy it?).

The fact that she was head of a department at an electronic games company is quite relevant with her personality. The electronic games of today have an unbelievable sum of violence, covered behind the "toy" image.

The end forms a question. Will she be better with her new (old) relation? Maybe, since both her parents are dead and she can be free.

IMO the best film of 2016!

Do you realize the possibility that there was never any rape and that her neighbour and Michelle had this understanding that he could come over once in a while to do this rape thing?

It's a very disturbing theory, but there are hints throughout the movie that that is what's going on.

"Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man..."
