I liked it much more than my husband did. Thought Verhoeven managed the suspense very well (jumped out of my seat a couple of times).
Isabelle Huppert was excellent (still think I prefer Natalie Portman's Jackie in Oscar terms though). Huppert has always been a very 'impassive' actress. She has a very expressive voice though. I kept wondering if maybe that quality of hers, the stillness, wasn't what the film needed. Nothing registered on Michele's face - not her betrayal of her closest friend, not the killing of the rapist, not even her jealousy of her ex-husband's girlfriend.
You're sort of left to figure it out that she's in fact mentally ill, still traumatized from what her father did. I thought Verhoeven should have fleshed out Michele's evident mental problems more.
