One of the best films of 2016

This movie blew me away on every level. The lead performance is absolutely stunning and the plot engaged me from start to finish. Tune into this weeks Cinemaholic Productions to hear my detailed thoughts.

I liked it much more than my husband did. Thought Verhoeven managed the suspense very well (jumped out of my seat a couple of times).

Isabelle Huppert was excellent (still think I prefer Natalie Portman's Jackie in Oscar terms though). Huppert has always been a very 'impassive' actress. She has a very expressive voice though. I kept wondering if maybe that quality of hers, the stillness, wasn't what the film needed. Nothing registered on Michele's face - not her betrayal of her closest friend, not the killing of the rapist, not even her jealousy of her ex-husband's girlfriend.

You're sort of left to figure it out that she's in fact mentally ill, still traumatized from what her father did. I thought Verhoeven should have fleshed out Michele's evident mental problems more.

This movie is deliciously sick and twisted and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
