Natalie Portman was robbed. The ONLY reason Huppert won is because it is the "Hollywood FOREIGN Press" and they probably gave her this award cumulatively for her career acheivements. Yes, I saw both films and this win was a joke. Not only will Portman win the Oscar, I bet Huppert won't even get an Oscar nomination!
If the only reason was that it was the FOREIGN press, how do you explain the following:
Gotham Award WINNER Satellite WINNER NYFCC WINNER LAFCA WINNER NSFC WINNER New York Film Critics Online WINNER Boston Online Film Critics WINNER San Francisco Film Critics Circle WINNER Boston Society of Film Critics WINNER St. Louis Film Critics Association WINNER Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards WINNER Austin Film Critics Association Awards WINNER Florida Film Critics Circle Awards WINNER Seattle Film Critics Awards WINNER
I probably preferred Portman's performance - by a hair - but your comment is completely idiotic and baseless.
Oh please, Isabelle's performance is the best this year, better than Natalie's performance in Jackie. Isabelle gave an incredible, just incredible performance in "Elle" (and "Elle" is a masterpiece, one of the best film this year I have seen). And the best thing is: Isabelle had two best performances this year, not only in "Elle" but also in "Things to come". BTW she is also considered to be the #1 performer this year by majority of critics, this is the case where her performance is so good even her character is not awards' material like the role Jackie of Natalie that major awards including Golden Globe can't ignore her. She is that good.
Absolutely. Other nominations award performance, you can say performance is good or not good, some are just Hollywood self-praised (La La Land); but that of Isabelle in Elle & Things to Come, it is vivid life - in fact, those awards what she got are awarding life by the critics.
I haven't seen Jackie yet so I cannot say if Natalie Portman was robbed or not, but I've seen Elle and Isabelle Huppert is just incredible in it. She gave one of those amazing performances that you can't see that an actor is acting. You almost feel like you're watching a real-life person filmed by a hidden camera. Unfortunately, that kind of acting and that kind of roles have almost ceased to exist in Hollywood.
The role of Isabelle Huppert in "Elle" is a master class in acting. The other actresses (Portman, Adams, Stone) goes several steps behind her. I doubt that she gets an Oscar nomination, due to her controversial role, although it would be very deserved.
I haven't seen Jackie yet so I can't comment on Portman though.
Her performance is impressive in that DD Lewis in There Will Be Blood kind of way -- a couple of mannerisms and a completely different voice. Also mechanical and totally one-dimensional if you ask me.

I keep seeing people saying this constantly, like they are equating her voice and mannerisms with a "bad performance". It's mostly coming from people that are way too young to have any clue what Jackie Kennedy was actually like. There are plenty of interview clips of her on YouTube, including that White House tour that they duplicated in the film. Portman did Jackie spot on 100% perfect, that is exactly what she was like. And not just that she could play the public, archived person that Kennedy was, but that she could further interpret it to play the emotional, private, and difficult scenes, such as a young girl around 30 whose President husband just had his head blown off sitting right next to her in the car. Sorry, but I have a reaction when people keep saying "But the voice!" Yes, that WAS Jackie Kennedy exactly. Please do yourself a favor and just look at even one minute of a clip of her and you'll see.
LOL you reported my post... Remember that you came here not to discuss this movie but to tell everyone how great another movie is and make inflammatory remarks.
But you are wrong. Isabelle was nominated and she has a good chance to win.
