No, I think it was a group of actual people. Either "anonymous" group or a group from school, but I am leaning towards an "anonymous" type group.

First of all they had remote access to every laptop... Hence the Trojans found. This required weeks of planning to get the Trojan on every laptop. Dig through everyone's emails and files to get all these details on their personal lives. A ghost wouldn't need a Trojan or hidden VNC client lol.

The hackers took over all of Laura's old accounts. Once they got her email every other account is theirs due to password reset to email.

Also, at the end those were not ghost hands closing that laptop they had a black sweater on.

So the first kill... Val? She was staring at the intruder. Her mirror? It looked SOLID BLACK. The reason was it was reflecting the black clothes of the intruder. That is why they wrote that dialogue into the movie.

We also never see the kills start the video always cuts. So someone's off screen either doing this to them or coercing them to by threatening to kill the others or a family member etc. The fat guy says "don't kill me" right before he dies.

These are real people that have stolen the social media accounts of the dead girl. Real people killing the power to the houses (two at the same time). Real people hiding a camera in the fat guys closet.
