Suprised with low audiences score.

It's not perfect. But it was new and clever. Sure the ending was predictable and would have been better if Laura Barnes let blaire live with the guilt. But overall it made me jump and it was one of the better horror films that come out today. 4/5. I agree with RT here.

I don't understand, either. I really enjoyed this (in fact, I've watched it about 4 times since fall). It's a unique concept and it really sucked me in. I'm not sure it's so much a horror movie, but what it lacked in scares it made up for in other ways. I definitely think it's best watched on a laptop.

It had an unique gimmick, but once you take out that gimmick, it's pretty much a paint-by-numbers horror movie with pretty much the worst clichés of the genre.

It had huge pacing problems, incredibly dumb moments and even dumb writing. Even it's use of technology had problems.

I agree it was kinda a rehash of the other horror movies today. But it was still clever and we were invested unlike other horrors where I could care less.

Thought I'd hate it but ended up watching the entire film enthralled.

This movie had one of the higher "horror movie" openings in a long time (around $30m domestically, which is very good for this genre).

That's remarkable for a movie that only had a $1 million budget. It appears people who laughed at the trailers (as we all did) still went to see it. Maybe the low IMDB ratings were made by a lot of people who never saw the movie and wrote it off?

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. Do I dare say it gave me flashbacks to the same novel excitement you got seeing movies like Hitchcock's Rope (one long uninterrupted take) and Lifeboat (all taking place in one location).
[although technically Rope was comprised of 10 minute takes cleverly pieced together, the physical limit of cameras at the time]

But Unfriended was so unique in how it made you stay in one spot -- essentially experiencing everything from one screen. I think the producer mentioned that he was toying with the idea of trying out other genres (action, romance, etc) using this method. I wouldn't mind checking those movies if they're ever made.

I went from a staunch disbeliever to a believer. And if it turns out gimmicky and wears out its welcome, this style will naturally die off. But right now, it's so unique and actually refreshing, I think it deserves a couple more shots.

I agree. Surprised the scores are so low. I thought it was original in its basic concept, very intense throughout, and actually pretty horrifying. They got the whole technology thing spot on, and used it very well to their advantage. Good little modern horror flick, with some shocking moments.
