Pitt and Jolie: The "Liz and Dick" of Our Times
For those who are asking "who are Liz and Dick?" they're Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
This Pitt/Jolie film, "By the Sea" resembles the god awful vanity projects of Liz Taylor and Richard Burton circa 1968 and afterwards. Their respective careers slowly diminished after reaching their heights with the undoubtedly great "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" in 1966. Bloated, expensive flops like "Boom" both together and apart deteriorated their worth as top film stars and they were has beens by the mid 80s. Legendary has beens yes, but has beens nonetheless.
I could be wrong and I hope that I am. "By the Sea" might be the Pitts' "Virginia Woolf" but by all appearances (a beautiful couple at some beautiful looking seaside location) it doesn't look that way.
