Marketing and Distribution

I think when they gave this movie the green light they thought it would be a nice hit, given the cache of Jolie Pitt. Then, when they saw what they had, they pulled back, cut their losses and gave the film a limited release. Smart. To fail on a small scale is preferable to failing BIG. As I'm typing this I'm watching a guilty pleasure "The Tourist". It so reminds me of Golden Age Hollywood, with attractive actors, great clothes and...the glories of Venice. I wonder if The Tourist was Jolie's inspiration to make a beautiful looking art film? Jolie Pitt will both survive being capsized by By the Sea.

There was also an article just released that said the studio let Jolie also make all of the decisions as far as distribution and making the trailers and posters for the film which never really showed either actor performing in them, this could not have been a good move.

Thanks. I just read the story. By the Sea was a carrot to get her to do Bride of Frankenstein or Taken 2. I guess I'm not really a Jolie fan. The only film of hers I've seen in several years is The Tourist. Is she still hot box office? Or only as good as her material? I'd like to read an analysis of her films in terms of b.o. returns.

A new Frankenstein movie is coming out soon. Do we need a Bride of? I guess she still has star power...... or are these film studio people clueless? Good thing they buried By the Sea or the stench of failure would be tough to overcome. And this is sad, but I keep thinking of those Sony emails...something about her being a minimally talented spoiled brat. Ouch.

Wanted 2 not Taken 2.

Thanks. Actually, I'd like to see Jolie team up with Liam Neeson. (Or Daniel Craig). I'd like to see her paired with an uber masculine actor, not softer types (like Depp or Pitt).

i second that!

No prob OP, I think we need a fresh perspective, no more reboots or sequels. I think she was onto something she just went the wrong way about it and needed a stronger script. But Bride of Frankenstein...hmm...maybe.
