Well it's early yet but Rotten Tomatoes shows The Tourist at 20% and By the Sea at 25%. There's more reviews to come though so we'll see if it holds. I'm surprised Melanie Laurent agreed to this Jolie Pitt vanity project.
While THE TOURIST was by no means good, it was better than two other similarly plotted films (KNIGHT & DAY, and THE KILLERS(?) (the awful movie with Ashton Kutcher and the ungrateful shrew from KNOCKED UP)). Moreover, Jolie was pretty good in it. Yes, the whole thing looked like a perfume ad with everyone watching her sashay into a room, but it also exposed Depp's lack of chops. He couldn't hide behind the hair & make-up people.

Not really. He did a good job at playing the role of an ordinary teacher who falls in love with a goddess-like mysterious woman. It was hardly the first time he played a character without hair & make-up people (as if they can make you magically give outstanding performance). You should check out his Oscar-nominated performance in Finding Neverland if you want to see his real chops exposed.
