What was her malfunction? spoiler

What were the flashbacks? Was there some reason why there was so much angst and drama? I kept waiting for a back story to emerge other than the miscarriages.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the acting and the study of a marriage. But, good grief, what vapid, self absorbed, boring people.

She's "barren."

Infertility. They didn't go into specifics about the infertility, just that she was tormented in a general sense about it. As someone who had experience with this problem I was irritated they made the character so hateful. Most couples I know are not full of hate and anger like the the wife was so I was irritated they painted that picture. Slow moving and depressing. I can't recommend this movie.

See her tragically gaze into the distance. Her lip quivers. She ignores the little girl smiling at her. She looks wanly at the water under her hat. She puts the sunglasses face down and he flips them to save the lenses. So much pretentiousness, this movie is making me want to barf, especially when it stars a couple that adopted several children, thus making the plot device sort of pointless.

Thank you!

She's not barren. She's capable of getting pregnant. It's wrong of Roland to use that word. On the basis of the information we're given, she's had 2 miscarriages in a period of 3 years of trying. That's not at all unusual. Many women have several miscarriages and still bear healthy children (though Vanessa does seem to be aging out of her prime childbearing years). It's normal to be sad after a miscarriage, even despondent, but her hateful destructive reaction is not normal. I consider it a sign of an extremely shallow, self-centered person. She's apparently chosen to be completely idle after aging out of her dancing career (not that there aren't occupations in the field of dance that don't require you to be young and supple. She just chooses to wallow in grief and anger.

This movie was so frustrating. Iā€™m barren. I had to have my uterus removed at 24 because I had cancer. It was awful realizing that I would never have my own children, it makes you feel empty in a thousand different ways. However, this woman behaved as though she had an excuse to treat her husband like utter shit and be completely miserable. Living like that is worse than death and I wish that she would just get it over with already if that was her attitude. I couldnā€™t stand how vapid and self involved she was, what a despicable mother she would have made.
