So, has anybody seen Gorgeous Vortex yet?
I haven't yet but if you have I wanna hear what you thought. Was it all that they hyped it up to be?

I just watched it.
Don't bother with it, i think the VHS people didn't want to admit it was cut because it was slow and awful. Glad they left it out now.
Forget the fact that it's NOT a found footage piece, more like a regular amatuer horror short. Some edited in quick video clips and a bunch of TVs in the final shot are the only thing that bears relation to the VHS series.
So what happens? Not much.
A hot, dark skinned woman is kidnapped and experimented(?) on by a bunch of masked hooded goons, assuming as part of a cult. She attempts to fight back but then faces its leader which is a monster that looks like one of the skeksis from the Dark Crystal. For some reason, she winds up captured and held by other cult women before the monster inside a mansion. The final shot is the woman, surrounded by the cult members and stacks of TVs, presenting the monster, on his throne, with a birthday cake.
Nothing like what people who claimed to have seen it last year described it to be. So.. yea pretty disappointing.
Oh dear.
shareThat's certainly... interesting.
Touching in on another subject: am I the only one who thinks this entire PR move was a complete disaster? Forgetting the reasons why this was cut from Viral, but the simple fact that they purposedly HID IT makes me wonder what the hell they were thinking?! There were so many websites and reviewers that I checked that didn't even mention the fact that there was a missing segment. That means that most people who didn't follow the news such as I did didn't have a clue that there was supposed to be another segment. This makes me question: do they want to instill a nostalgic feel with all that "90s hidden track" *beep* or do they want to make money? For God's sake the segment or Todd Lincoln's name isn't even on the back cover and listed as a special feature. And guess what: putting a simple sticker on it would make people who saw it at festivals and actually LIKED it at least stop on the aisle and take a look at the back cover.
The segment didn't have the same vibe as the other two and so you cut it? Why didn't you put it after the credits on festival sreenings? This is all *beep* How Miska claims there was an information "leak" and that Lincoln's participation was prematurely announced. Well, Mr. Miska, considering you're the GOD DAMN PRODUCER you would have the knowledge NOT to put his name included on the first announcement post and poster on the article which YOU wrote.
Yeah, I really don't understand what the hell they were trying to accomplish with Gorgeous Vortex. Details couldn't have been "accidentally" leaked when they first announced it, his name was on the poster and clips from the segment were in the damn trailer! How was that an accident?? It seems more like they originally were gonna include it and then they changed their mind, and then saw how many people disliked Viral and then decided to put it back in on the DVD/Bluray release so they could hopefully re-spark some people's interest. *beep* lame if you ask me.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.
shareThe only thing they were trying to accomplish with GV was having a fourth short to fill out the full-length running time of the movie. They changed their minds because after viewing the final product, it wound up being a bad idea that didn't work and would have messed up the pacing of the feature. I mean, hardly any of the short is in the found footage format. Todd Lincoln didn't give them what they asked for. So they pulled it and claimed it was cut for a smoother-run time or pacing or whatever, which is partially true. They're not going to say 'oh it was bad'
They put it on the Blu-ray because hey, they had bought the short. So what else are they going to do with it? Never release it and piss off fans wondering what was this mysterious short that was cut? Granted they aren't proud of this so hid the short in the chapter selections and didn't list it among the features on the back. I can't blame them at all.
I highly doubt it's that bad and that they're embarrassed by it, they put Bonestorm on the finished product.
shareHe does say on several interviews that he immediately pitched them Gorgeous Vortex as he intended it to be and that the producers gave him complete creative freedom.
shareNo, it bothers me alot.
Todd Lincoln's statements do not follow with the release of GV. GV was not HIDDEN. It was never hidden. It was supposed to be a short within the anthology back in the announcement of VHS Viral. This idea that it was a decision made early on that it would not be in an 82 minute anthology reaks of two things: asking the audience to buy two tickets, or it wasn't done or wasn't good enough or didnt fit.
Evidence is now in that it doesn't fit...and sounds kinda like a terrible music video and wasn't good enough...for Viral. Bizarre.
Edit: This goes against Brad's own statements where he confessed he was forced to remove GV from Viral to fully produce it into a feature film.
I highly doubt they didn't put it because it's not good enough. You watched Viral, you know what I mean.
Honestly, maybe it's a good thing for Todd his segment is so different and appears after the credits. It can be seen as its own thing.
It wouldn't surprise me if he made it so different on purpose just to piss them off XD
Yes, but is it a good thing that Todd's short appears after a movie like Viral? It has 4.3/10 here and atrocious scores all across the web. He should've jumped in the bandwagon on V/H/S/2, now that would have ben sweet.
shareI think they screwed him over when it comes to that. I do wonder what the reviewers would think and people in general if Gorgeous Vortex was present since the beginning.

GV made little to no obvious sense. It was just 15 minutes of slo-mo hot girl walking around looking at things, with quick glitch-clips of various dead/dying women. Then randomly at the end hot girl tries and fails to kill a demon-thing, then is captured and brainwashed? Initiated? into the demon's harem.
Was slick-looking and stylish for sure, but had no real story to it. Felt more like a clip for ABCs of Death than V/H/S. The great thing about the V/H/S films is that each episode has a coherent story, unlike ABCs of Death, which only has ideas.
GV felt more like an idea.
Problem is, it's still probably the second best "episode" on V/H/S Viral.
I hope there is a V/H/S 4, and it is a return to form. Loved the first two.

And apparently there's more to it: http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/90225/vhs-viral-gorgeous-vortex-impre ssions/
Lincoln’s phantom entry was always intended to be revealed in this way, making “Gorgeous Vortex” an artsy addition to a kind of VHS: Viral bootleg that Collective Digital Studios and Bloody Disgusting always intended to release. Certainly, for fans of abstract horror and jarring, indelible images, “Gorgeous Vortex” is a welcome addition to the VHS catalogue.
The world of “Gorgeous Vortex” also expands to its titular website, which promises more content soon, and the music featured in the segment by Joseph Bishara, which can be found here.
TL: There has been some early interest and talk about turning Gorgeous Vortex into a feature film. I have a lot of ideas on what that would look like. But I kind of prefer Gorgeous Vortex to stand alone as a short film. There’s something cooler about that. Certainly I’m a fan of shorts that have been turned into features – THX-1138, La Jetée, District 9, Boogie Nights, The Evil Dead, – but I don’t think a film has to be feature-length to be “official.” It’s good to leave people wanting more and move on to the next project.share
