Sorry for always making new posts, but I caught up this interview with Todd Lincoln in which he is asked to set the record straight about Gorgeous Vortex.
So let's set the record straight: Why wasn't your short included in the VOD/theatrical release of V/H/S: VIRAL?
TL: I finished my segment on time, on budget and delivered it at the same time as the other V/H/S: Viral filmmakers. Gorgeous Vortex was the exact length and exact cut that you see today. It was decided to make my film the secret surprise final segment of V/H/S: Viral to expand the mythology and point to a new direction for the franchise.
Yeah same here, I was pretty disappointed in just the little part of Dante that abandons found footage. And now apparently Gorgeous Vortex too. It pretty much contradicts the whole idea of V/H/S.
I wouldn't mind for more experimental shorts like Gorgeous Vortex if it actually turns out good. Dante would've been good if they had actually done it in a good way. It was so generic, predictable and cheesy that the part where it broke the found-footage was for many people, including myself, the complete turn-off part. I ceratinly wouldn't mind if only the wrap-around was found-footage, as long as the short themselves were actually good and actually had a true VHS aesthetic. They spend too much time in post production putting those *beep* glitched when all it takes it to transfer the video from digital to VHS and digital again and you'd get TRUE VHS quality.

The turn off part for me was when it was about a magician.
Exactly. It wasn't in Viral, no need to be found-footage anymore. Besides, I wouldn't mind if the next installment wasn't found-footage at all. As long as the stories are actually good and take themselves seriously, they could ditch the found-footage aspect, but still remain the grainy VHS feel/vibe. But that's just my opinion. I wouldn't mind if the stories were more weird and bizarre than straight up "familiar" horror. Maybe a body-horror story by Cronenberg? Although I doubt Cronenberg would come near this franchise haha
I just hope we didn't misinterpret what Todd said and there's no V/H/S 4 or anything XD
I really do want to see more.
From what I've seen of Gorgeous Vortex it seems like it takes itself seriously and that's what I like. None of the other segments in Viral didn't seem to take itself seriously.
Yeah, I also agree. And judging by that teaser, the man actually tried to incorporate the whole VHS aesthetic into it. Also, it looks and sounds really creepy, no matter how that "killer birds" and "birthday cake" line makes it sound.
Here's hoping for a V/H/S/4 that combine's Viral's creativity with the seconds one's execution and the first one's "snuff-esque", grittiness and rawness. Also, the wrap-around should be in the 90s and feature a Volvo 440 Turbo. Just sayin'.
Well, Todd said that the segment isn't found footage, so I dunno what those parts of the teaser with bad quality video are (it's kind of sad that the man did a better job than others when it comes to that and he never intended it to be found footage).
Btw. not sure if you've seen them, but these are all pics I could find about GV (the newer ones that is):
Thanks, man. I think I had already seen those pictures, and I gotta say, even tho they look "polished", they look polished in a hella of a good way. I remember that I read on a review somewhere that the birthday cake scene happens in the end, and its the woman (Jayden Robison) who offers it to the monster that is sitting in the throne, surrounded by all the other women and masked men. It might sound silly... But it kinda doesn't xD. Kinda sounds cool.
There's also a scene, which I don't think its a spoiler, where the woman is looking into a vending machine that sells stilletos, so this segment is very much literally "high-fashion" and about the dehumanization of women as objects.
By the way, there have been many interviews released about GV with Todd Lincoln that are very much worth looking into. He says he wouldn't like to expand GV into a feature, but would very much like to "add" to the mythology, so he says for us to keep an eye on that www.gorgeousvortex.com website that we found.

Very true. His short might end up to be the most bizarre, *beep* up thing that ever happened in V/H/S and might being the only short that actually gets carried on past the film in which its hidden.
On a side note, one of those interviews mentioned that when you buy the movie on iTunes, GV will be downloaded as a separate file, so here's hoping that someone uploads it for us who don't live in the US :(

I have to eat my teeth here a little...but GV is the only worthwhile thing in Viral outside the early promise of Parallel Monsters.
Todd Lincoln deserves a second chance after Apparition...but the explanations surrounding this are ridiculous, and it clearly doesnt fit in Viral. There is no way this concept ever did.
Anyway, GV is INTERESTING, which is alot to say for anything connected to Viral.
I swallow my hat, but the segment reveals why it wasn't in Viral.
