The premise of these movies

So yeah, after this movie came out I think we can finally agree that the premise makes no sense whatsoever.

So yeah, apparently some thing takes footage from all kinds of cameras and puts them on vhs tapes which make people crazy/possessed(?) or something, even the effect of the tapes isn't explained well.

Here's why I think the premise is nonsensical. People were speculating before that maybe someone transfers footage to vhs tapes so they can sell them easier as snuff movies, but as we can see, that's not the case.

So, why did the filmmakers decide to have the premise of people watching vhs tapes? I have no idea, I thought they were aiming for the retro thing, setting the stories in the time when people used vcrs.

That would make sense right? Well, apart from the wraparound segment (though, it depends during which time that was set, maybe those guys just had bad, outdated cameras for some reason, but hey, it's obvious by now that filmmakers didn't care about logic or good filmmaking)and the last segment (which was even set in an appropriate time period) from the first movie no other segment followed the whole premise.

Vhs tapes for some reason have footage from all kinds of sources like chat videos, artificial eye cameras(!), hell, they even have footage from cameras which were deleted or the footage that was deleted (which showed how much some filmmakers cared) and they have crystal clear quality, some of them at least.

I wish my vhs tapes could've done something like that, some of those tapes don't even look like they've been taken care of properly, but the quality didn't drop or anything. I need those vhs tapes.

You know, filmmakers, just because you add random "vhs tape effects" doesn't make your footage look like it came from a vhs tape and it's obvious you do it just to hide certain bad effects or to make the footage look smoother, no cuts etc.

So yeah, they could've just call the whole thing D/V/D and make it be about people watching strange dvds they found and it would have made more sense, but it's obvious I'm thinking about it more than the makers and it's obvious they're just making stuff up as they move along.

I agree that there is no way this should be called V/H/S for the reasons you mentioned. A good post svalinanikola.
