OTish - Best Film In a Horror Series

Of the following Horror movie series with at least three or more installments, pick your single favorite movie in each. Remakes, prequels and crossovers count in any series with them as your favorite if it is. Add more series if you'd like too, I just listed some of the major ones for now. Thought this would be a fun survey to share with a new V/H/S film coming out.

If you don't care for it just ignore it, you're not being forced to look.

I'll play.

Ft13th - Freddy vs. Jason
Halloween - III: Season of the Witch (yep. It's just insane enough) 8 MORE DAYS TIL HALOWEEN!
NoESt - Freddy's Dead - The Final Nightmare (by miles, that was the one released when I was like 12 years old)
Saw - Honestly not sure. They're just segmented bits of torture porn, really. I guess the first one? They don't hold up IMO.
Scream - Scary Movie 2
Texas Chainsaw - I so want to say next generation because Biel is a goddess, but this one goes to 3 - the Next Generation. Truly the beginning of the McConnissaince
Alien - Original. Kind of a trick question since none of the other films in the series constitute horror films.
Predator - Also not a horror film but I put all 3 on equal footing. Yes the Adrian Brody one was IMO amazing.
Phantasm - The original, BOOOOOYYYY.
Evil Dead - It hurts my soul to rank these films against each other but 2. Don't discount the new film. It's damn good as well.
Hellraiser - Obviously 2. And to think... I hesitated.
Child's Play - Honestly, 3 was the one released when I was a teenager and it's the one that stuck with me the hardest.
Final Destination - Such a good series. So hard to put them up against each other but 2.
Paranormal Activity - I preferred the period of my life I had before watching any of these.

With your extended list:

Puppet Master - 3
Maniac Cop - Definitely 2
Living Dead series - Day of the Dead! You and I might be the only 2 humans who agree on that entirely. I absolutely LOVE dawn as well, but Day took it to such a visceral level of desperation.
Return of the Living Dead - 3 man. Melinda Clarke = Sexy zombie.
Lector films - I want to say Red Dragon. Fiennes was out of this world in that. Most memorable scene in the series goes hands down, however, to feeding Ray Liotta his own brain in Hannibal. Actually it's a tie with Hannibal. Gary Oldman... also out of this world good.
Jaws - Sharks don't scare me. I'm from Wisconsin. Open Water was scarier than any of them by miles.
Cube - 1 for sure. Cube Zero sure pulled some insane punches though.
Tremors - I refuse to watch films with Kevin Bacon.
Leprechaun - Meh.
I Know What You Did Last Summer - double meh.

Some you left out:

The Omen - Original. No contest.
Amityville - 2006 remake.
The Grudge - 2
The Ring - 1
Poltergeist - Original (RIP Heather O'Rourke)
Psycho - I'm more scared of my own shadow sometimes.
Silent Hill - I still maintain the original was an excellent film and proved everything wrong about assumptions towards video game adaptions.
The Prophecy - Original.

Others exist, none really worth mentioning.

You added some good ones.

Bump

Is it strange that I thought Evil Dead 2 was a little underwhelming. I still really liked it, but I didn't feel like it was anything revolutionary. Maybe I missed something?

reply

A lot of people actually prefer the first Evil Dead to the second from what I've seen. The two are usually very close.

reply

I think I've replied to one of your threads doing a best film in a series before, but my opinion has probably changed so here I go :)

reply

The Cube sequels are actually pretty good, but the original is definitely the best.

reply

To be fair I haven't seen them in years, but I remember hating the 2nd and thinking the 3rd is alright. I still have them so I'll probably check them out again. And if I don't like them well to each his own.

Signature.

reply

Sorry for my slightly late reply, only just now noticed.

I agree Cube 2 is the weakest though it's not bad. The third is a prequel and was definitely better, and the opening trap is probably my favorite out of the series.

reply

There's the Candyman films has well, not seen the third but the first two are some of my favorite Horror films. I actually may like the sequel a wee bit better.
