I don't get the love for Parallel Monsters
I mean, the main character is an idiot, most of the segment is spent with him having an awkward (but mostly normal) conversation with the parallel wife and the two guys.
He doesn't even seem freaked out while he's talking to them, he just looked puzzled or really not interested (like when he decides he'll rather check out the lights outside than talk to Martha).
There's no suspense being created during that part, we don't get the idea that he's in danger, that the stakes are rising, it's not even filmed in a suspenseful way.
The creepiest things are the burning body on the tv, plus those moaning sounds. Oh and that piece of flesh in the room. But they're not that creepy themselves, something needs to be done so the creep factor can be even higher, but that's not done, because of the problems I wrote above.
Then comes the big reveal of the segment; the people in that world have demonic penises and vaginas. That's not scary, it's laughable. The cheesy special effects don't help at all.
Like I said, Alfonso is an idiot. He think it's a good idea to switch places with a person who may look like him, and has created the same device, but that doesn't mean that person can be trusted. It's still a stranger. Everything bad that happens is his fault.
The parallel world isn't even well explored, you have no idea how things function etc. Like, why did that guys have no problem with being filmed and then later on they do?
The way parallel Alfonso is killed is also kind of stupid. I don't have such a big problem with him being killed by her demonic vagina (although, it does seem highly impractical to be used as a method of killing), it's the stupid dialogue from the wife that makes it stupid.
If this was a part of V/H/S 1 or 2, it would be one of the weaker segments.
So, why is this so liked?
