Elvis DID play outside the USA
It's been awhile since I've seen this, but IIRC he wanted to travel outside the USA and his manager prevented this.
But technically he did. In 1957 he performed in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver. I know by "abroad" he probably wasn't thinking of getting his feet wet briefly in his neighboring country. But the movie didn't mention this.
