Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis strutted its way up the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this evening for the film’s world premiere which was greeted by explosive applause inside the Palais.

The crowd got to its feet during the end credits on the Warner Bros title, clapping in rhythm before the lights came up, and remained standing for 10 minutes to mark a 2022 record so far at the festival.

In his review, Deadline’s Pete Hammond called Elvis a “visual and vocal feast of a movie.”

Never understood their obsession with those idiotic standing ovations for movies. I would love to see video of whole 10 minutes and faces of people who stand there like and idiots for 10 minutes and clapping ))

And how other people are counting those minutes on their watches. And how and who decides that its time to sit down.

No one outside of Cannes does that. Even in Marvel movies. Just stand up, clap to show your appreciation and move on.

There is a video of it with OUATIH, the French press awkwardly focused on Brad Leo Margot for the 10m standing ovation

link? I mean it has to be so awkward when it happens. With all the actors and directors have to stay there too and stare at floor not knowing what to do. Why are french ctirics, press and people inside those Cannes theaters are so obsessed with it I dont know.

Ok I found the link. Its so hilariously awkward.
