When he went to the second guy's house and saw the picture on the bureau of the guy in the uniform, he looked older than 10. I thought he was going to turn out to be the right guy. How come there were so many guys with the same name in Auchwicz? Guards and prisoners?
shareIt was only the Kurlander#3 who was in Auschwitz. Kurlander#1 and Kurlander#1 were just immigrants from Germany of that same time period. Kurlander#4 had a different name in reality.
shareJohn Kurlander said his father was 10 when the war started, so by the time he was a cook, he would have been 16 or 17. The Germans were desperate for men as the war went on, but not so desperate that at the beginning of the war they would have taken a ten year old. I didn't get a good enough look at the photo to see if he looked older than 17.
