I was blown away by how good this was!!

I don't care if it is a little gimmicky, I was mesmerized from beginning to end. Forget Clapton, Plummer is God. In fact, the whole cast was phenomenal. Egoyan has cemented his place as one of the best filmmakers working today. Geez, I can't say enough good things about this film. I can't wait to see it again!

I thought it was extremely predictable. The end was signposted at about ten minutes in, and from that point on was a repetitive dot to dot towards the inevitable climax. Plummers was acting was superb, but it wasnt enough to rescue it as a great film. It was nowhere near as layered, subtle or interesting as Egoyans earlier work eg Sweet Hereafter.

The end was signposted at about 10 minutes in FOR YOU, maybe. Whether or not you genuinely saw it coming or are just trying to pass yourself off as clever - that's between you and yourself.

There's a simple question, which if you ask yourself, spoils the inevitabilities of a film like this. The question is "why am I being told this". If you find yourself asking that question, then things because obvious.

E.g. in Sixth Sense, the moment the kid says "they don't know they're dead", you ask yourself "why am I being told this?" and the answer is obvious.

In Remember, we're told that sometimes the nazis get so convinced by their false stories that they start to believe them. Then we're told he forgets things. So you ask yourself "why am I being told this?" and the mechanics of the story become obvious.

Sure, but not always. Some movies show us things for no clear reason at all, just like things tend to happen in life for no reason at all. I understand that most modern film follows a general formula, but it's not always the case. Not only that, but some people do not actively question every action a character in a movie makes. Personally, I try to enjoy the ride and then analyze/ask questions after the credits.

I guessed the ending quite early on but that didn't detract from a really good film for me.. I thought Christopher Plummer was a really good lead and I completely bought into the emotions of the film every time he realised his wife had died and having to remind himself of his life's story. I hadn't heard of this film before so it was a nice surprise.
