next new show coming monday april 18th

in the past whenever the show was about to go on holidays during his signoff steven would remind us of the date when new eps return. but not lastnight (thursday).

wild guessing, net execs put the kibosh on rerun headsups; channeling Cabaret's musical "money-money-money" sentiment.

Mindy Kaling rescued this boring week of Colbert. He didn't interrupt her much like he does with other guests. I guess that's why the show was good. Colbert should keep to his monologues and let his guests speak.

reply

And no stand up monologue. They opened with the taped bit with Kaling and guests, then went straight to the desk. A very brief hello to Batiste. I haven't been watching every episode... have they done that before? Are they trying to experiment with the format, maybe?

All I can say is this show needs some help... Feels like the network gave Colbert much leeway to put together this show his way and it's not working.

They've done it a few times. Steve Martin and the Spike Jonze opening I can remember off the top of my head.

Do they think we don't notice that lately there have been more re-runs than new shows?

And what's this week's reason for a vacation? They have to do their taxes?

reply

I don't keep up with all the primetime shows on different networks, but I have to imagine they arrange the late night schedule around when new episodes of lead-in shows are airing. I know that at this point in 2016, Fallon has only done one or two more new episodes than Colbert (and I imagine the other shows have similar numbers). So I guess it's kind of standard to take this many breaks.

While I'm not sure if it's the same or not, when Fallon and Meyers both started on NBC 2 years back they would run for five weeks and then take a 1-2 week break. This would mean that every 6 weeks we see 5-10 re-runs depending on what the show does on Fridays and about 20-25 new shows.

The bad news: Hillary is one of the guests -- the night before the New York primary. She'll smile and banter with Colbert in hopes that undecided voters will vote for her. She's using his show to gain added exposure and he's using her to boost ratings.

everybody wins. except we don't

She wasn't on for very long. Hope that helped you out a bit.
