Wow..can someone give me a rundown?

I loved Colbert Report. Watched the first week of this show but, as I always do, decided to give it a few months to find itself before tuning back in. I've seen various bits, like the James Bonde car rental thing, and assumed all was well.

Today I randomly started researching the Conan/Leno ordeal and ended up on this board. WHOA. So this show seems to be doing terrible?! A .3 in the ratings???

I am going to watch a few episodes next week to see for myself, but can someone give me a basic rundown of why things are going so poorly?

Colbert just doesn't have the right late night appeal. He seems to be overconfident like he's already the king of late night when he's just a pauper. Yes, he has a very quick wit but that's about it. All this is from someone(me) who's a fan of Colbert but even I admit his late night stint has been very poor. It's not just Colbert either, the other late night hosts like Fallon, Corden, Kimmel are pretty shoddy as well. Conan might be the best right now but honestly the whole landscape needs to change as all these guys jokes just fall flat or are just unfunny.

Late night comedy ain't what it used to be folks.
