Can Corden rescue show held hostage by unwatchable bore?

Why is it so many people knew and TV execs didn't about this guy? He goes out of character he fails. What about "comedian gets serious" don't we understand? One of the bigger flops in TV history.

The slow drip for SC has got to be particularly cringe worthy as he gives us his goofy mugging for all the promos but then he gets sober at show time. Poor Stephen does not even get the joke that he has become.
