Batiste's "Oh no, he didn't"s

While Batiste has been on the receiving end of a lot of hate here, most of it well deserved, in recent months he was getting on my nerves a bit less. But this new thing he's doing more and more of- this "OH NOOOOOO!" after Stephen throws shade (usually at Trump, but others as well)- this is the last straw.

For the record, I thoroughly enjoy especially hard hitting digs- the kind where an audience member or two might moan and say "Oh no, he DIDN'T just say that." But the reaction has to be authentic, not Batiste's incredibly fake mugging.

This has gone too far.

Have you ever seen Batiste and Stay Human perform besides the little snippets they give him on the show? They're incredible, and they definitely get the audience pumped up and engaged before and during commercial breaks.
It doesn't matter if he's funny or not, his presence is always warm and welcoming wherever he goes. Plus, he's an extremely talented musician.

I know that Stay Human, like Batiste, have their detractors on this board, but, honestly, if you'd seen my previous posts on the subject, you'd know that, in this forum, there is no bigger fan of the band than I :) In all of late night history, I don't think I've ever been more captivated than when the band starts second lining. When they play dixieland... oh boy, nothing can touch them. It drives me up a wall when the music starts ramping up and they cut to commercial.

Mind you, I do not enjoy Batiste's original pieces, but just because I don't enjoy his compositions doesn't mean that I can't worship at the Stay Human altar.

Colbert and Batiste share the same Achilles heel. When they're mouthpieces for other people's work, you'd be hard pressed to find more talented performers, but, for both, ego gets in the way and a tragic compulsion to write their own stuff enters the picture.

I'd argue that the material is catered for each of them to be in the picture, it's not a compulsion. If it comes off that way, I'm not sure how you can decipher between what's the collective whole and written/staged and what they improvise on screen.
