shareAgreed. It did feel more suited for Xmas. The London scenes felt quite Christmasy (although weren't set at Xmas which they couldve been I guess for added Christmas feel if they wanted it out at xmas). Also most of these types of films are released at Xmas (Potter, LOTR, Narnia)
Maybe they wanted it in summer as that's traditionally Spielberg blockbuster date (like ET) and Chocolate Factory was out summer 2005 and did quite well (500m) as was some of the Potters
