So all of the giants except one are cured by their nightmares and become good, nice giants who don't want to eat beans anymore. Despite this, they all get sent off to a remote island anyway. Now, rather than joining BFG and being friends with him and keeping him company, they all leave him, meaning BFG has to live the rest of his life all alone. The giant that wasn't cured, they could have just made a new nightmare and waited for him to fall asleep. He has to sleep eventually, then he gets the nightmare and gets cured too.

I don't understand this either. It seems redundant and unnecessary. In the original they just capture the giants and put them in a hole which serves as an Alcatraz.

I didn't think the nightmares rehabilitated them, rather just scared them long enough to make them easier to catch.
