Great drama you probably haven't seen

I just finished watching this series on Netflix who acquired it from DirecTV. Despite an impressive 8.5 score on IMDB and rave reviews from its small core of fans, it seems to have flown under the radar of most people.

It takes place in the L.A. MMA world, but don't be misled into thinking this is some sort of Rocky-esque story about the trials and tribulations of a street level fighter seeking to become a world champion.

The fight stuff is merely the background to a quality small screen drama about friends and family.

Frank Grillo -- who seems to suddenly be everywhere -- is great as the flawed trainer/owner/father whose heart is mostly in the right place, but has a rough exterior.

The real standout though is Jonathan Tucker as the oldest son Jay whose natural charisma and charm hides his inner insecurities. In the final episode, Grillo and Tucker deliver some of the most powerful monologues I've ever heard in a series drama.

Tucker also has a flair for comedy. The scenes where he and gym buddy, Mac, indulge in some recreational narcotics and wax philosophical had me bust out laughing. I'm pretty sure the director let these two get high for real and then told them to improv it. Neither has any clue what the other is talking about and it's funny af to watch.

I've signed a petition, hoping that Netflix will add a season or two to this series.
