very true in some ways, i believe the deaths of opie, his wife and father in SoA is what began the death of the show, because they were members of a biker gang, yet still tried to keep their morals together and maintain as much honor as possible, not many members of the gang could say they did the same.
without that little bit of honor and morals in a shi!ty situation involving criminal actions, drugs, guns and death, the show declined into how and with whom to make more money, which in turn began a vicious cycle of crime, violence, death and just enough money to save their heads from the chopping block for the next season, however more and more family and gang members kept dying at the same time.
my point is sometimes a character death is not as valuable to a show's continuity as them surviving and learning how to handle their lives and difficulties differently.
