Jay and Ryan

I am having a hard time understanding why Alvey's loyalties lie with Ryan over Jay. It is clear if they ever fought Alvey would corner and train Ryan. Jay is his own son! Not to mention that Jay, from what we have seen, is more talented than Ryan and more dedicated. Yes, he's done some questionable *beep* outside of the ring but hey at least he didn't put his dad in a wheelchair. Jay is the one always having to tell Ryan to man up. Seems really *beep* that he doesn't support Jay enough.

Jay is a drug user with a shocking track record. I think that track record meant he never reached the same level as Ryan (before Ryan went to prison).

So is Ryan. I haven't seen Jay rage out when he's drunk or high, unlike Ryan. He also hasn't gone to prison. Ryan is the bigger loose cannon but he had more success in his field, made a name for himself, so Alvey cares more about the one that can make him money. I also think Alvey sees Christina in Jay and resents him.

If you paid attention you would remember that Jay is extremely unreliable and lacks discipline and focus. Besides being a totally odious person and disgusting character. Since the first season he's cleaned up his act somewhat but much of the answer to your question has been remarked on by many different characters toward his bad history.
As for Ryan according to Alvey, he has a killer instinct rarely seen and that's why he's always in his corner, despite the obvious danger to his relationship with Lisa.

In episode 1 he and Keith are attending what appears to be AA or NA meetings? I understand if they have to regularly attend group as paroles but what they were reading sounded like an addiction Intro.
