I love this so much

After every episode, I feel so much love for this show. Unfortunately nobody else watches it so I have nobody to talk to about it. So I decided that, even if embarrassing, I will just go ahead and say it on IMDB.
I love so much how the writers are handling what Ryan is going through. The episode where he helped kill his dad had some of the best writing and acting on TV, that I ever saw. The way the we get to see in the next episodes how he tries to keep himself together, how he is afraid of losing himself in anger again, and yet how he is also slipping and how he is looking for companionship and yet nobody really cares about him enough to see him is so freaking amazing writing.....
And just don't even get me started on how amazing Jonathan Tucker is.
Alvey and Nate don't seem to me as compelling as characters as Jay and Ryan but I still think they represent also a very interesting take on 2 other ways in which you can get life to slip through your hands...
So there, since nobody around me can talk to me about the show, due to their not watching it :P, I decided to vent here.

Its my favorite current show on TV - I don't watch GoT haha - I think its the MMA that put people off, if you're not into it, then you're probably not going to watch the show. Unfortunately. Its such an amazing show, i've become huge fans of Jonathan Tucker and Frank Grillo because of it too

I really enjoy the show despite the dysfunctionality of all the characters, but I was actually disappointed with the most recent episode. The Jay and Ava drug binge was annoying and some of their scenes just felt like filler. Alvey is still in such a weird place that I don't care about him and the lawyer because it can't last. The only part I liked was that Nate got back in the ring, his text from Will made him smile and he won. I was irritated that right after his win when he should have been able to celebrate, all Christina could talk about was Jay and how Nate needs to help him. Finally, Ryan and Alicia are so messed up I don't understand their situation.

I do not care particularly if characters are having good things or bad things happening to them, as long as the storyline is consistent. I would prefer some balance of good and bad, but more importantly I would like for the events to not feel like a Deus ex-machina kind of plot device. Somehow all this Eva stuff and the way Jay is reacting to her and ignoring his mom after all he did for her seems rather inconsistent.

Same. It's the best new show and no one is watching! I've been trying to get people into it so we could chat about it each week but no one is jumping on it. I love Jonathan Tucker. I actually tuned in for the description and Grillo but once I saw Tucker was in it, I was hooked. And this may be his best character yet. I think Alvey is a pretty interesting character though, he just hasn't gotten enough backstory revealed.

I think Alvey is quite interesting also. In every episode I expect him to fall apart completely, to finally loose his grip on reality and somehow it never fully happens. But he never quite gets his head right either. I would be curious what is the diagnosis of the psychiatrist he's seeing. And also, yeah, more back story - how did he get to this stage, is it mental illness, or is there something traumatic in his past, or past drug abuse ......

This exactly. I suspect he has some sort of mental illness but is in deep denial/resentment over it. Is that why Lisa left? She had enough when he stopped taking his meds and was drinking? What is all his crap that she'd had enough of, besides being a cheater and not treating her like a partner. I think he's an interesting character.

I'd say Alvey is dealing with post concussion syndrome, and the damage from all his fights. In one of the Episodes, either Nate or Jay were talking about how much more Savage and unregulated it was when Alvey was fighting. Time-wise, most sports ignored the damage concussions cause. Past concussions can cause a slew of issues besides CTE. As few as two in a lifetime causing insomnia, depression, anxiety, anger, rages, etc. It would make his argument with Nate about why he should stop after his concussions make even more sense.

Oh wow! That's very interesting insight. Thanks.
