Really Nate? Ugh!

It's so frustrating that just when you think Nate might be turning a corner and is accepting himself and allowing himself to be happy, he calls it off with Will before it even starts! I am very disappointed!
In next week's preview Nate gets really upset about Christina letting junkies into their home and he's ranting to Jay, so my hope is that during that rant he will say something about consequences and sacrifice and how he is the only one who seems to think about those things and in a fit of anger he will admit to Jay that he is gay and was falling for Will but broke it off because he thought that's what he had to do for his career and the family. It won't make me feel any better about him ditching Will, but at least if Jay knows we might get some good brother moments and character progression for Nate.

He lives in a very alpha world so it's not surprising that he's struggling with this. I think it is good writing.

I know, it is very frustrating, even for us viewers. When will Nate grow a pair and be himself? He is not without options, he doesn't need to be a fighter, he is so young, he should go to college like his mother said!

It would be super hard for MMA to have one gay male athlete vs a straight guy just because of the nature of the sport being so super up close and frankly, homoerotic in the first place, I guess. Not that I agree, but if he came out he would be blacklisted immediately, so if he wants a career he has to hide who he is, like it or not.

I don't think that will change for the duration of the show, at all.

Nobody has to know. Will is super understanding, they can keep it on the down low. Being a fighter is hardly a life time career choice.

reply

I hope Nate doesn't let Will go that easily. He deserves a decent guy and I think they'd be good for each other.

So, even though last night didn't play out exactly like I was hoping, I think it was implied that Jay might be figuring it out. I'm not sure what to think of his reaction though because he just slowly rested his head against the steering wheel. What do you think it means?

reply

I felt like he was suspecting it all along and now he had proof. It's just that he has told his mum that it wasnt his job to fix her life and now it seems he gets dragged into his brothers life. And not that he doesnt want to. On the contrary i guess, he wants to be there for him and that is what makes it difficult. It is not like he has so much ground under his feet himself obviously considering his damaged girl friend, the drug abuse and a pretty complicated relationship with his father.

reply

Jay will definitely protect him. But other than the gay thing, I think Nate is an annoying character period. Nick Jonas does a great job but that character gets on my nerves.
