I hope the Ryan and Jay thing isn't going where I think it is...

Ryan loses the first match because his knee is injured and Jay loses in the rematch because he's all messed up on drugs. So they set up a rubber match in the next season when they are both sober and healthy. I hope for something better than that.

I hope Jay doesn't lose, and not just because he's my favorite character. His father doesn't seem to respect him as a fighter and I don't want to see him validate his father's underestimation.

Yeah Alvey treats him like *beep* Its completely ridiculous and I hope Jay goes to train somewhere else and sticks it to Alvey after he wins the rematch. What kind of father coaches a guy on how to physically injury his own son? Alvey doesnt know what it means to be a father.

In Alvey's defense, Jay is an absolute junkie, his stance towards Jay makes sense.

So is Ryan. He's also violent out of the ring and has assaulted Alvey. Has Jay?

Ya and the only reason Ryan got hurt before this fight was because he was being a violent drunk towards Jay. Even if jay is a junkie Alvey is still his father and I would imagine most parents would make an effort to get him back on track but we haven't seen him really try, he just gave up on Jay really quick and now wants to
Help someone Injure him

reply

Unfortunately, it did. Except I didn't see Ava dying, but Jay obviously not in his right mind as an excuse to have him lose and set up a rubber match.

I had hoped the show was better than that.

First Fight:

People are forgetting that Ryan's head was messed up prior to their first bout too. His father hadn't just died, he begged Ryan to euthanize him. Already burdened with the guilt that he caused his father's condition, now he's quietly harboring the assisted-suicide.

Can anyone still question Ryan's headspace when he initiated the tussle that damaged his knee? Yes, he was drinking and doing drugs. But he was self-medicating, not celebrating.

And no, I'm not condoning it but I can empathize.

Rematch:

Now Ryan's got the upper hand.

Jay's questioning his legitimacy. He wanted Ryan to postpone the 1st match. He knew Ryan was messed up - and not just his knee. He knew Ryan was grieving - though not the full extent - because it was he who picked up Ryan off the bathroom floor, stayed with him while he vomited, and helped him detox.

And Ryan's knee injury.

Anyone wonder why Jay wouldn't postpone the 2nd match? With Jay's big heart, I think he believed he was evening things out.

Next season:

Until I watched the Season Two finale, I shared the OP's opinion that I didn't want to see a third bout between them. They're even. But now I'm speculating that Navy St. is demolished or sold due to the lawsuit against Alvey + he's lost his attorney and the Lisa/Ryan 💩. Partnership dissolved, corners realigned, contracts renegotiated, bad blood, new blood.

Feeling renewed by the letter, Jay cleans up again. He and Nate climb the ranks. There's gonna be another showdown for the belt.

reply

Not only had his dad just died but Alicia just insulted him sexually.

I don't think Jay should even have been fighting Ryan. Jay had one significant win under his belt by losing all that weight and fighting in class he naturally didn't belong in. Before that he won what? one other fight? It doesn't make sense that he would be going against Ryan, a very established fighter. This part of the show is very unreal and I wish they would just have them fight people from other gyms.

It's all foreplay. The winner gets to top, the loser gets *beep* Classic really, beats rock-paper-scissors any day.
