Tucker's portrayal of Jay

First I will preface by stating that I have NOT seen every show from day one.
But so far, what I've noticed is that there is NO nuance to Tucker's performance-- he always plays Jay as wired, coiled, intense, over the top frenzied; so does that imply that Jay is ALWAYS high? because I see no difference between "sober" Jay and high Jay.

not sure what you mean by your opening sentence, "jay is sober"....when?? every episode I've seen has him high as a kite, on coke, booze, even heroin. My comment is more about Tucker's portrayal- he plays Jay the same regardless of his level of 'sobriety' IMO.

I think that was how the character was suppose to be... a quite wired person. There are some people who doesn't need to be under the influence to be wired. I have seen him in other shows... his character in 'The Black Donnellys' is quite the opposite of Jay and he play it well. I always assume Jay's character to be a bit crazy... it's just him being him.

Jay is bipolar. We've seen him both very high and very low. We mostly see him when he's in a manic state because that's when he's most interesting and unpredictable, thus creating more drama for the show.

I've seen a few people like that in real life they've taken so many drugs their mind is permanently damaged so they always seem abit off. Having said that I can tell the difference between Jay sober and jay high/drunk.
